THE
CITY OF CHINO
|
Welcome to the City of Chino "Where
everything grows"
Incorporated
as a city in 1910, Chino is a well-established residential and
commercial area with beautiful neighborhoods, diverse demographics,
irresistible hometown charm, and a well-rounded business mix.
The City of Chino was originally part of the San Gabriel Mission.
In the mid-19th century, the greater Chino area became Rancho
Santa Ana del Chino (Saint Anne of the Fair Hair).
Chino
is currently called the “Four County City” because of its location
within San Bernardino County where it meets Los Angeles, Orange,
and Riverside Counties. Chino is one of the fastest growing cities
in the nation. Residents enjoy easy access to the Southern California
metropolitan region and nearby recreation areas.
Chino’s city limits encompass just over 20 square
miles, or approximately 14,000 acres. The City’s sphere of influence
includes 6,000 acres of the adjacent San Bernardino County Agricultural
Preserve, which is currently being studied for future development
and possible annexation to the City, thus ensuring continued economic
growth.
The
Citys mission statement is, Together We Take Pride
in Providing Quality, Caring Service to Our Community. As
the City looks to the future, Chino will strive to maintain its
cultural heritage and hometown ideals while preparing for the
challenges that will be encountered in the new millennium.

BUSINESS and EMPLOYMENT
The City
of Chino has a population of 68,103 (2000), which grew by almost
8,500 (14%) during the 1990's. Chino has experienced significant
success in commercial and industrial growth. This can be attributed
to the Citys development-friendly philosophy which allows
for financial incentives for retail development to locate in the
City. Chinos Economic Success Team works closely with the
development community to streamline the entire process, from location
assistance to permit processing.
|
The growth
in business in Chino can also be attributed to Chinos proximity
to vital transportation centers. Bounded by the 60/71/91 freeways,
Chino has its own municipal airport and is located just minutes
from Ontario International Airport. Chinos growth will continue
as the former agricultural preserve is developed. Chino has completed
the annexation of over 1,800 acres of land in the area and plans
to annex an additional 5,400 acres for future growth.
|
 |
Reminders
of Chino’s agricultural history are still evident in the 15,000
acre dairy preserve on the eastern boundary. The Preserve is currently
undergoing land use planning, preparatory to development that
is expected to bring more than 100,000 new residents to the area
over the next twenty years. Several thousand acres will be planned
for industrial development, ensuring the acreage’s continued economic
growth for many years.
Today,
Chino has more than 2 million square feet of retail space. Major
retailers include Nordstrom Rack, Target, Staples, Mervyns and
Sam’s Club.
|
The city
has a substantial industrial base with approximately 22 million
square feet either planned or proposed. More than 2,300 companies
are located in Chino, including 350 manufacturers and an equal
number of distribution companies.

the community of Chino circa 1860. The District, encompassing
88 square miles, services 31,545 kindergarten through twelfth
grade students and is growing at an approximate rate of 2% a year.
CVUSD currently has three comprehensive high schools, one continuation
high school, six junior high schools, twenty elementary schools
and serves students at residence in the Boys Republic within the
cities of Chino, Chino Hills and a portion of Ontario. Located
in communities of tremendous growth with a high emphasis on education,
the District's mission statement is: Increase Student Achievement,
Provide Safe Schools, and Promote Positive School Climate.
